The Academy of Finland call texts are now more customized
The Academy of Finland’s April 2019 call texts have now been published on the Academy’s website. Funding is available for research infrastructures and Academy Programmes.
During the call, the Academy will also reform its application services. From now on, there are no PDF call texts. Instead, each call text can be found on the website in its entirety. The reformation’s aim is to improve usability.
Each funding opportunity is introduced on its own page as its own call text which includes all the essential information, such as
- who can apply
- how much and for how long the funding opportunity has funding
- how the application is submitted
- which sections are included in the application
- how the applications will be reviewed
- how the application process proceeds.
Additionally, each funding opportunity page includes a link to the funding criteria. We expect every applicant to read these. Sites of research have their own guidelines which are also available for all.
The call text can still be printed and saved as a PDF file. An A‒Z index of guidelines is attached to the call text. All essential information on applying will be available there.
Online services' usability improved
The Academy’s online services have been developed based on the feedback we collected last year. The structure if the research plan has been simplified. Mobility, the PI's salary, and the project’s research expenses have been moved to their respective pages, which has freed more space for writing the actual research plan.
The authorisation option, that is, transferring the right to supplement or view the application to another person, has been simplified. The text editor has been altered so that text looks the same as in the PDF printout. It is also now easier to write mathematical equations. In organisational applications, such as funding for research infrastructures or strategic profiling of universities, the applicant is no longer a person but an organisation.
The funding recipient may edit the public project description before they accept the funding.
The service reformation makes the work of the reviewers easier. The review questions are now directly connected to the research plan.
The call opens in the online services on 2 April 2019. The application can be submitted 2‒24 April 2019. The research infrastructure call (FIRI) is open 2 April‒15 May 2019. All calls close at 16.15 local Finnish time.
