2021 declared as Year of Research-Based Knowledge
2021 has been designated as the Year of Research-Based Knowledge. “Knowledge belongs to us all” is a slogan that effectively captures the essence of the Year.
The Year of Research-Based Knowledge 2021 invites everyone to familiarise themselves with a wide variety of reliable sources of information, ranging from research data and statistics to studies and analyses, and to make use of the information in their own lives and according to their own interests.
The Year will provide an opportunity for a broad range of actors, such as the producers, users and intermediaries of information, to highlight and showcase their work. The actors will receive more exposure as they align their activities with the objectives of the Year and make use of the coordinated programme and the visual identity in their own events. The Year of Research-Based Knowledge will set up several communication channels to effectively reach not only individual actors but also a wider audience of citizens, policymakers, businesses, public-sector organisations and associations as well as other interested parties.
The Year will promote research-based knowledge and improve its exposure and applicability across Finland in a variety of ways. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, the Academy of Finland and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies are launching a dedicated project to support this work and increase cooperation between the actors involved.
The planning of the Year is currently underway. The project will recruit a secretary general and a communications specialist who will be responsible for coordinating and communicating the preparation and implementation of the Year. At the strategic level, the work of the secretary general and the communications specialist will be led by a steering group. In addition to the staff recruited and the steering group, a significant role will be played by all those actors who wish to participate in the Year by integrating their own projects and activities into the official programme. We invite everyone interested to join us.
