Academy of Finland becomes Research Council of Finland
The Academy of Finland is adopting a new English name. The new name in English is Research Council of Finland. At the same time, the research councils will become scientific councils.
The Board of the Academy of Finland decided on Monday 5 June 2023 that the Academy will adopt a new English name, the Research Council of Finland. The new name will be introduced immediately. The new name is in line with the names of many other public research funders around the world.
The research councils will become scientific councils in order to maintain a clear distinction between the Research Council of Finland and its decision-making bodies. In addition, the English name of the Research Council for Culture and Society will be changed to better reflect the disciplines concerned (social sciences and humanities):

The changes will be introduced gradually in the Academy’s English-language materials. The English-language logo will be changed and the website will be updated. The changes and updates are expected to be completed by autumn.
