Pre-announcement: RCF call for research on forest biomass coming in spring 2025

31 Jan 2025

The Research Council of Finland (RCF) is opening a call for applications focusing on forest biomass in Finland. The call will be part of the RCF’s spring 2025 call.

Funding will be granted to research consortia promoting innovative and sustainable solutions for the versatile use of forest biomass, for example in the bioproducts industry and in energy production and nature tourism. The aim is to strengthen research cooperation between universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutes and industry and to support the sustainable growth of the bioeconomy, while safeguarding carbon sinks and biodiversity.

The call will be implemented as part of the RCF’s Climate-Synergy Academy Programme.

In addition to a doctoral degree, the applicant (the principal investigator (PI) of the proposed project) must also have other significant scientific merits. Usually the PI is a researcher at the professor or docent (adjunct professor) level.

The funding is targeted at consortia of research teams representing different fields of research. A maximum of 1 million euros will be granted to a single consortium and up to 500,000 euros to a consortium subproject (TBC). The funding will be granted for four years starting on 1 January 2026.

The details of the call will be announced in the call text and at a call webinar in March 2025.
