2025 Call for research into forest biomass in Finland

The present call provides funding to consortium projects focusing on research to utilise forest biomass. The projects to be funded must support the sustainable use of Finland’s forest biomass as well as promote climate objectives and forest biodiversity. The total budget of the call is 7 million euros. This entails a one-off allocation of up to 1 million euros per four-year consortium project.

Funding will be granted to projects promoting innovative and sustainable solutions for the versatile use of forest biomass, for example in the bioproducts industry and in energy production and nature tourism. The aim is to strengthen research cooperation between universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutes and industry and to support the sustainable growth of the bioeconomy, while safeguarding carbon sinks and biodiversity.

The call is implemented as part of the RCF’s Academy Programme for Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality Research (Climate-Synergy), which examines the impacts of climate change both in the environment and in society and seeks solutions to promote a carbon-neutral future.
