Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
The research councils at the Academy of Finland nominate a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to each Centre of Excellence in their field of research. The purpose of the SAB is to support, promote and follow the centre’s scientific activity and research plan implementation. The SAB meets three times in the first five-year period and once in the second three-year period at the invitation of the centre. If necessary, the SAB shall take initiatives to strengthen the scientific activities and performance of the centre and encourage the application of new questions and methods that it considers useful in the implementation and planning of research. The SAB is not expected to conduct a conventional evaluation, but rather to give a constructive, and if needed, critical report on the centre’s progress.
